COLORADO SPRINGS - Several hundred people filled Acacia Park in downtown Colorado Springs Wednesday for a noon-time rally against the President's health care reform plan.
The group "Americans for Prosperity" sponsored this stop of the "Patients First Tour." The group is urging people to speak out against what it calls a government takeover of health care, saying the plan would shut out access to health care for many Americans. "We want folks to show up in numbers to send a loud message to our congressional delegation, Senator Bennet, Senator Udall and to all of out congressional delegation that whatever health reform we do, we want to make sure that it is free-market oriented and it protects access for patients" said Jeff Crank, Colorado Director of Americans for Prosperity.
A handful of people showed up in support of the current health care reform plan. "We are very sad to see this because we support comprehensive health care reform that is affordable for the people who don't have insurance and you look around this crowd and there is a lot of misinformation" said Christy Lelait with "Change That Works."
Wednesday's rally is in advance of the multi-state "Patients First Bus Tour" that kicks off next week. The tour plans stops in Colorado Springs and Pueblo on Thursday, August 6th and Canon City and Salida on Friday, August 7th. Click here for a link to the bus tour schedule.
