MONUMENT - Winter weather returned to the Pikes Peak region with a vengeance Wednesday. Wind-driven snow and wet, slushy roads are what drivers faced for the morning commute.
Despite reduced visibility as daylight arrived, few accidents were reported as of 8 a.m.--mostly on I-25 at the top of Monument Hill near the border of El Paso and Douglas Counties. Driving may become more hazardous as temperatures drop and wet surfaces freeze, especially on bridges and overpasses.
El Paso County's Department of Transportation had 14 trucks on the roads, focusing on the Monument Area, Chipita Park and Peyton.
Be careful while driving, slow down and allow plenty of time to reach your destination. NEWSCHANNEL 13 will continue to track weather and travel conditions through the day Wednesday.
