COLORADO SPRINGS - A distracted teen crashes into two men working on their van, sending them to the hospital.
Police say a 19-year-old man was driving through a neighborhood when his cellphone rang on his lap. It fell to the floor. The teen looked down to grab it and then drove between a truck and electrical box before hitting a van that two men were working on.
The two men were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are unknown.
A Colorado State trooper says inattentive driving is one of the leading causes of accidents. "This shows you what inattentive drivng will do, basically what happens is you lose concentration, take eyes off the road and it only takes a split second," stated Trooper Sean Mess.
The current state law says no one under the age of 18 is allowed to use a cellphone while driving. In this case, the driver never actually picked up the phone, so he won't be charged for that offense. But police are still investigating.
