PUEBLO - Students, staff, and the East High community in Pueblo rolled up their sleeves Monday to honor a former graduate.
Carlos Romero was killed this summer. Police say he was at a party in a garage when a gang member apparently shot through the door killing Romero.
Friends say Romero was working hard and planning to go to college. Organizers of the event say its something he would have done to help out someone in need.
"It was a big loss because Carlos was great," said Darcy Harrison. "I think that's why we have a lot of support."
More than 50 people gave blood, nearly maxing out resources provided by Bonfils Blood Center. Nearly all of the blood they collect stays in Southern Colorado. They say 16 and 17-year-olds can donate blood with their parents permission.
If you missed it and would still like to donate blood in Carlos Romero's name call Pueblo East High School and ask for Ray LeMasters. That number is (719) 423-3906.
