COLORADO SPRINGS - A case of domestic violence almost turned deadly Monday night.
It happened on the 2200 block of Split Rock Drive on Colorado Springs' westside.
Colorado Springs Police arrested 30-year-old Jeremy Hunter and transported him to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center after he allegedly tried to kill his wife.
"Clearly this was a pretty terrifying event for her," says Lt. David Whitlock with the CSPD.
Police say when they got to the scene around 10:30 p.m., they found 29-year-old Michaelynn Hunter. She had allegedly suffered multiple injuries at the hands of her husband.
"He attempted to strangle her, smother her and also struck her not only with his hands but apparently with some item made of wood or some sort of blunt object like that," says Whitlock.
Police say Jeremy Hunter then fled the scene by foot. Officers found him not far from his home and arrested him.
Springs police won't say if there's a history of domestic violence between the couple, but the department is grateful Mrs. Hunter was able to walk away without life-threatening injuries.
"We're happy we were able to place him in custody and it didn't end up being a much more serious event," says Whitlock.
Hunter is facing attempted second degree murder charges.
