Thursday night marks the beginning of the Medical Marijuana Task Force. This task force is an effort by the City to better understand the medicinal marijuana industry.
Council member Sean Paige said the City Council was still in the dark about how to make an appropriate decision regarding medical marijuana after late October's meeting. "I think even the people in the industry recognize that it can't be the Wild West. We have to have some level of control, some standards."
Those present hold different stakes in the medicinal marijuana industry, and a select few from each group will form part of a city task force that will aid the Colorado Springs City Council in interpreting Amendment 20.
Everyone we spoke to agreed that regulations did need to be in place, but were concerned for their business and their patients if they city chooses to shut them down.
Larry Hill was at the meeting, and said medical marijuana has been so beneficial to those with debilitating diseases, there is no turning back. "At this point in time so many people would rather smoke marijuana than take OxyCotin or take Valium."
Again, this is just the first step in the creation of the Medicinal Marijuana Task Force. Councilman Paige told NEWCHANNEL 13 there will be several more meetings before the city council can become better educated on this industry.
