COLORADO SPRINGS - 38-year-old Mandell Russell is hospitalized in serious but stable condition Friday after he was shot outside the Pinions Apartments at the intersection of Airport & Chelton Roads.
28-year-old Tory Sentell Carr was arrested around 9:25 a.m. by police as the suspected shooter. Carr, who is a resident of the apartment complex, had a dispute with the victim in the shooting over an alleged burglary at Carr's apartment last week.
He will be booked in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder.
Police say at least 13 shots were fired, hitting Russell twice in the chest and arm. According to police, the suspects chased the victim from inside one of the apartment buildings, outside to the parking lot. The shooting happened just after 5 a.m. Police have not said if they are seeking other suspects.
Several vehicles parked in the parking lot were damaged by bullets. Police say one of the vehicles may belong to Russell. He's expected to recover from injuries.
