Durango pot shop reports break-in, but no theft

Associated Press - November 7, 2009 12:44 PM ET

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - A medical marijuana dispensary in Durango says a person broke in last week but left without taking anything.

The owner of the Durango Healing Center says the break-in happened early on Halloween. The Durango Police Department reported that the dispensary was using a "dummy" camera that apparently spooked the burglar, who left without taking anything.

A security system was activated, but the suspect was gone by the time police arrived. A new city ordinance that went into effect Nov. 2 - after the burglary - requires marijuana dispensaries to have an alarm system with video surveillance. The new ordinance also requires dispensaries to place the marijuana in secure safes while the business is closed.
