COLORADO SPRINGS - You still can't buy Roma tomatoes but you can eat them if you go to the right restaurants.
Four downtown Colorado Springs restaurants NEWSCHANNEL 13 visited not only offered tomatoes with the meal but also told us why Roma tomatoes were back on the menu in the first place.
NEWSCHANNEL 13 visited Chipotle, the Pita Pit, Subway, and the Ritz - all offered Roma tomatoes despite the recall.
"They were inspected about 10 days ago and everything checked out clear," Ritz sous chef Stephen Bek says.
The Ritz in downtown Colorado Springs never had to take Roma tomatoes off of its menu because its produce was considered safe. Bek says The Ritz gets its tomatoes from a local grower who uses safe, F.D.A. approved methods to water crops.
"We're really diligent about where we get our produce from and our meats and everything and we inspect everything and make sure that it's top quality before we even accept it."
The other three restaurants we visited told us management switched growers in order to put the tomato back on the menu.
Roma tomatoes were recalled after being linked to a string of salmonella. To find out more about salmonella or the tomato recall, click
