DENVER (AP) - A second Colorado school has reopened following a shutdown prompted by a student testing positive for the H1N1 swine flu.
Excel Academy Charter School in Arvada reopened today, after earlier saying it planned to stay closed for the rest of the week. Park Lane Elementary School in Aurora also reopened today.
Yesterday, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said a total of 19 Coloradans have tested positive for the H1N1 flu, up from 10 confirmed cases on Tuesday.
The agency says 4 of the 19 cases are in Adams County, five are in Arapahoe, three in Jefferson, two in Denver and one each in Boulder, Douglas, Eagle, Fremont and Garfield counties.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the severity of the H1N1 virus is similar to that of the seasonal flu.
It has reversed an earlier recommendation and advised schools not to shut down for swine flu cases.
