Memorial Grows for Murdered Ca?on City Family

CAÑON CITY, Colo. - A steady stream of people is walking and driving past the home of a murdered family in Cañon City and leaving items to show support.

"The memorial service Tuesday night brought more people out to see and leave things here," a neighbor said.

A growing collection of stuffed toys, flowers and other items lies under a tree in the Phay Avenue front yard of the Folsom family.  Neighbors said a police officer guarding the property helps keep the assortment of items together.

A second, smaller memorial has started at the base of a stop sign down the street at the corner of Yale Place.  A neighbor said that memorial is intended for people who didn't know the family personally but want to show support.

Meanwhile, the Folsom home remains surrounded with crime scene tape as the murder investigation continues.  Mandy Folsom and her children, Melissa and Mason, were found dead in the home last Sunday.  A teen female was assaulted at the home but survived.

Jaacob Vanwinkle, 31, is in custody facing charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual assault.

Relatives of the Folsoms visited the memorials Wednesday and thanked the people who showed they care by leaving mementos for the victims.
