Man dies trying to rescue his dog from cliff

Rescuers airlift body, return dog to family

A California man fell to his death while trying to rescue his dog from a cliff.

The 67-year-old's dog got away from him at Thorton State Beach on Monday, the Golden Gate National Park ranger told KPIX.

Rescuers airlifted the man's body from the bottom of the cliff and returned the dog to the man's family, KPIX reported.

The area is a popular spot for dog walkers. Rangers advised dog owners to use leashes and avoid the cliffs, which are very steep, KPIX reported.
