Newborn puppies dumped in trash at Colorado Springs apartment complex

COLORADO SPRINGS - A woman in Colorado Springs found a group of newborn puppies inside a dumpster at an apartment complex during the Labor Day weekend.

The woman told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that she was afraid to open the plastic bag sitting at the bottom of the dumpster at Sierra Pointe. When she did, she found three small puppies.

On a note, the woman wrote, "They were ditched in a manner intending to kill them (bottom of dumpster just after it was emptied."

The pups were taken to Animal ER Care in Colorado Springs and put in foster care.

One of the puppies died within 24 hours. The other two are thriving. The person fostering told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that she was keeping one of the dogs and the other one was spoken for.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 reached out to Warren Property Management, which owns Sierra Pointe, and a spokesperson said the company was "horrified to hear it had happened."

Warren is investigating the incident and says some of the residents have leads on the suspect.

No arrests have been made at this time.
