COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A stolen Red Cross disaster relief trailer, emptied of supplies, was recovered Wednesday by Colorado Springs Police. The trailer was stolen from the parking lot of the Pikes Peak chapter on 1040 South 8th Street and the disaster relief contents were missing when the trailer was recovered."The staff and volunteers of the Pikes Peak chapter are extremely grateful to CSPD and the community for their help in recovering our stolen trailer," said Thomas Gonzalez, CEO for the Pikes Peak Chapter. "Its recovery is a victory for everyone in the community."The trailer and its contents were purchased six months ago utilizing grant funds provided by the Wal-Mart foundation. The chapter is now asking for financial help from the community to help re-stock the trailer. Colorado Technical University offered support earlier this week with a $1,000 donation to support the chapter's efforts to restock the trailer. Donations can be mailed to 1040 S. 8th St. , Colorado Springs, CO 80905.This is the third time this chapter was the victim of theft. In previous strikes, two of the Chapter's Disaster Response vehicle's fuel tanks were drilled into and all of the gas was siphoned out.Contributions to the American Red Cross may be sent online at www.pparc.org .
