COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- After a neck-and-neck race Tuesday night, GOP candidate for U.S. Senate Jane Norton has bowed to Ken Buck, her opponent.
Early results showed Buck leading 52% to Norton's 48% in the August primaries.
"Ken Buck ran a spirited campaign. We agree on far, far more than we disagree. We agree that Washington's madness must stop," said Norton in her concession speech.
Republican Ken Buck will face Democrat Michael Bennet for the U.S. Senate seat in November.
In his victory speech Buck credited his grassroots campaign and volunteers with giving him the push to victory. He believes there are many more voters, ready to support him in November, upset with the status quo in Washington.
"I think we need to unite the party and reach out to Democrats and independent voters who are frustrated with Washington D.C. as well," said Buck in his victory speech in Loveland.
He also said he represents Colorado conservative values and would not have supported health care reform or stimulus spending as his opponent did after being appointed to the Senate.
"The solution to bad government is not more bad government," said Buck.
Before addressing the crowd, Buck spoke with his son Cody over the phone while on stage. Cody is attending The United States Military Academy at West Point and is already in New York for classes.
Buck then addressed the crowd and told them without the scores of volunteers he wouldn't have made it this far.
