COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A judge Tuesday dismissed a skater's request for a permanent restraining order against her former partner. El Paso County Judge Stephen Sletta made his ruling after considering the case for a week.According to testimony, the two were an ice dancing team between April and December 2008. Hopkins is a nationally-ranked skater. The female accused Hopkins of physical and verbal abuse during several practices.NEWSCHANNEL 13 also learned from a source that at least two other skaters made similar complaints against Hopkins, and that tensions between the skaters continue because they associate in the same social and competitive circles.Furthermore, the source accused Hopkins' coach, Patti Gottwein, World Arena and other members of the skating community of supporting Hopkins and ignoring the complaints against him.In explaining his ruling, Sletta said Hopkins neither posed a threat to other skaters nor seemed actively intent on abusing them. Sletta blamed tensions between the skaters on youth, competitiveness and crowded conditions at the arena."I see reckless conduct, questionable judgment and a lack of control by World Arena," Sletta said. "I find this situation fascinating and alarming. My sympathies are with you all. I have no idea what you do next."Parties on both sides declined to comment after the hearing.
