DENVER, Colo. -- A group of abortion-rights supporters led a rally at the State Capitol on Tuesday. Leaders for 'No on 62' say the amendment seeks to extend legal and constitutional protections to fertilized eggs. Lorena Garcia, Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights, said, "giving fertilized eggs legal rights is absurd."Speakers at the rally included Vicki Cowart, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Jeremy Shaver, Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, and Rev. Dawn Duval, African Methodist Episcopal Church pastor. They told the crowd "We are once again facing an anti-choice campaign in Colorado," "they believe women, their families, their doctors should make their own personal, private decision about their lives and their health, and "we are asking Colorado voters to once again say No to Amendment 62."Supporters of Amendment 62 also attended the Rally and shouted their opposition. Gualberto Garcia fought to get the amendment on the ballot. Garcia said, "The crimes of a father, should never convict a child." Garcia told News Channel 13 his mother also had a crisis pregnancy. He said, "When I found out... part of my family pressured her to abort me, that's what got me thinking."Garcia said 'Yes on 62' supporters gathered 126,000 signatures to get the measure on the ballot. He hopes the support will continue to grow before the November election.A similar amendment was defeated by voters two years ago.
