A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition with massive head injuries after being hit by a Hummer at a Springs car wash Tuesday.

Police said the child's father was vacuuming his car when the boy wandered away. It happened at Colorado Car Wash at Hancock and S. Academy at about 6:30 p.m.

"Right now the indication is that there's no drugs are alcohol involved and that it appears to be a tragic accident," said CSPD Sgt. Lonnie Spanswick.

He said a witness reported seeing the child wander in front of the Hummer as it was leaving the parking lot. Spanswick said he didn't expect the driver to face any charges.

Another child was also hit by a car on Trout Creek Pass Drive, near Powers and S. Carefree around the same time. That child is reportedly 4 years old.

Police said the child has a head wound, but that his injuries aren't life-threatening. They said a car was making a right-hand turn in a residential area, and couldn't see clearly because of sun glare. Police said the driver may be ticketed for driving too fast for conditions.
