Changes in the state's drunken-driving law go into effect Thursday. Local law enforcement officials are discussing its impact.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado Springs police and state troopers are setting up sobriety checkpoints and stepping up patrols this holiday weekend.Law enforcement arrested four drivers at two checkpoints Friday night.Police contacted more than 1,800 drivers at the intersection of Powers Boulevard and Constitution Avenue.Police stopped more than 600 drivers in the southbound lanes of Highway 115 at Lake Avenue.Last year, 24 people were arrested on drunken driving charges during the Labor Day weekend.Funding for the sobriety checkpoints comes from the Colorado Department of Transportation’s “100 Days of Heat” campaign.
