Attorney General John Suthers is coming under an online attack from his opponent in the November election.

The race for attorney general hasn't been a hot election topic, but Thursday the campaign for Stan Garnett upped the ante. They posted a jib-jab-like video on YouTube and linked it to their website accusing Suthers of not fighting for the people of Colorado and instead fighting for Republican interests.

The ad starts out by saying, "John Suthers is supposed to protect Coloradans, instead he's wandered into political battles across the country just to further the republican's agenda."

Suther's campaig said it's nonsense and proof that Garnett, Boulder county's district attorney, is going negative because his campaign's in trouble.

"I think it's a revelation that Stan is having a hard time running on his own message," Suthers Campaing Manager Andrew Cole told NewsChannel 13, "he's down in public polling and I guess this is what he decided he has to do.

Garnett's camp stands behind the ad and points to support from groups like the state's police union to prove they are not in trouble.

Garnett is the first legimate threat to unseat Suthers since Suthers became state attorney general in 2005. However, the Suthers campaign says they're not threatened and not going negative.

"John's going to continue to campaign on a positive message about his accomplishments," said Cole.

By the way, the Garnett ad is one of the political ads TARGET 13 is fact checking for you as part of our Truth Watch. Stay tuned to NEWSCHANNEL 13 for more in the coming days.
