A pay-it-forward movement is happening in Colorado Springs.

On Sunday, Heart of the Springs Church (HOTS) gave its members a card full of cash and asked the congregation to use it to bless others in the community.

Pastor Mike Hensley said the church sold a piece of land and wanted to use a percentage of the money to give back.

“If this is a one time thing, it’s going to be an amazing one time thing. I think it’s going to keep giving back,” said Pastor Hensley.

Don and Kay Heaberlin, owners of Pikes Perk Coffee, gave a portion of their money to a homeless man named Ron.

“He’s part of our community and we just wanted to give into our community,” said Don Heaberlin.

KRDO Newschannel 13 was there when the Heaberlins gave their donation to Ron.

“You’re in our community here and we care about you a lot. What we’re giving you is help on next month's rent and a gift certificate for some food,” said Don.

“I’m really happy about it, but it’s not really a surprise because they’ve helped me over the years,” said Ron.

A month’s rent means Ron doesn’t have to live out in the cold.

“Starting over is hard. It means a lot,” said Ron.

HOTS church is hoping to share more random acts of kindness from their congregation.
