MANZANOLA, Colo. -

Three people were taken to the hospital after a school bus was rear-ended on Highway 50 east of Manzanola Wednesday morning (1/8/14).

The accident happened at 6:17 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 50 and County Road 14.

Manzanola School District 3J Superintendent Steve Sanchez says there were eleven people on the bus and two people in the car that hit the bus.

The two people in the car and one student who was riding on the bus were taken to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta.

The student was evaluated for non-life threatening injuries and then released to his parents.

It's unknown how badly the driver and passenger in the car that hit the bus were hurt.

The nine students on the bus who were not hurt were taken to school. Their parents were notified of the accident.

Sanchez says there is minor damage to the rear of the bus as a result of the crash. He says the car appears to be totaled.
