COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

The 19th National EMS Memorial Service was held Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.

Forty-three fallen heroes were honored. Each of them died in the line of duty.

During the service, family members were presented a white rose, a medallion and a United States flag that has been flown over the U.S. Capitol denoting the honoree's service to their country.

After each name was read, a moment of silence followed. There was also an air-medical flyover and the playing of taps.

2011 Honorees:

John R Alison of Halstead Fire & EMS, Halstead, KS, who died in the line of duty on February 2, 1978 of a duty related cardiac event.

Anthony Archuleta of Southwest Med Evac, Las Cruces, NM, who died in the line of duty on February 5, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

Esteban Angel Bahena of San Diego Medical Services, San Diego, CA, who died in the line of duty on April 1, 2010 of injuries sustained when struck at the scene of a call.

James Ray Bailey of McDowell County Emergency Ambulance Authority, Welch, WV, who died in the line of duty on September 8, 2010 of injuries sustained in an ambulance involved motor vehicle collision.

Shawn Baker of MedFlight of Ohio, Wellston, OH, who died in the line of duty on October 19, 2010 of a duty related cardiac event.

Paul Bazinet of Empire Ambulance, Glens Falls, NY, who died in the line of duty on January 3, 2010 of a duty related cardiac event.

Misty Oakley Brogdon of Hospital Wing, Memphis, TN, who died in the line of duty on March 25, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

Ted Caffarel of Air Ambulance Stat, Amarillo, TX, who died in the line of duty on July 4, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

Tracy Chambers of Air Ambulance Stat, Amarillo, TX, who died in the line of duty on July 4, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

William Chapin of Bangs Ambulance, Ithica, NY, who died in the line of duty on March 19, 1986 drowning during a swift water rescue attempt.

Guy del Giudice of CareFlite, Grand Prairie, TX, who died in the line of duty on June 2, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

John R Demkosky of Lackawanna Ambulance, Scranton, PA, who died in the line of duty on November 29, 2010 of an on duty seizure and cardiac arrest while on a call.

Ryan Marshall Duke of Eagle Med, Oklahoma City, OK, who died in the line of duty on July 22, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

Stephen Durler of CareFlite, Grand Prairie, TX, who died in the line of duty on June 2, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

Dale Eidsvig of Hennepin County Medical Center EMS, Minneapolis, MN, who died in the line of duty on October 29, 1972 of injuries sustained in an ambulance involved motor vehicle collision.

Sharon Falkner of Air Ambulance Stat, Amarillo, TX, who died in the line of duty on July 4, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

Brenda French of LifeNet Arizona, Tucson, AZ, who died in the line of duty on July 28, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

Gayla Lynn Gregory of Air Evac Lifeteam, Vilonia, AR, who died in the line of duty on August 31, 2010 of injuries sustained in a medical aviation accident.

David Gundle of Clark County EMS, Sellersburg, IN, who died in the line of duty on December 8, 2010 of injuries sustained in an ambulance involved motor vehicle collision.

Norman H Haines of Laurens Emergency Squad, Laurens, NY, who died in the line of duty on July 19, 2007 of a duty related cardiac event.
