A boy killed in a hit and run collision on Thursday night has been identified as 14-year-old Ricardo Figueroa.
Figueroa was pronounced dead Thursday night, several hours after being hit by a pickup truck on the city's southeast side.
The accident occurred just after 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Airport and Circle, about a block away from the Valley-Hi golf course.
Police say the Figueroa was crossing the street, appeared to stumble, and was trying to get up when he was hit. Witnesses say he was badly crushed, getting caught briefly in the truck's tires.
The driver of the single cab pickup truck drove away. CSPD says the driver is described as a white male. Witness Zach Thompson tells KRDO, NewsChannel 13 the man had very short hair or possibly a shaved head.
Police say he was driving a 1985-1987 Chevrolet pickup truck or a 1987-1991 GMC pickup truck. The vehicle is described as a full-size pickup with a "lift kit" and damage to the left front portion of the vehicle near the left front, single, high-low headlight system. Preliminary information indicates that the pickup truck is possible Primer Grey or light in color.
The driver was last seen speeding away from the scene going south on S. Circle Dr. from Airport Rd.
Figueroa was an 8th grade student at Galileo School of Math and Science. A District 11 representative tells us the district has mobilized their grief team to help students and staff mourning his loss. Principal Robin Colbert described Ricky as students and staff called him, " As a very funny, respectful young man. He did well in school. He was very popular and well liked by all."
Colbert also told us that "I would hope the person responsible for this would find it in their hearts to reach out to their family and let them know how sorry they are."
