FORT CARSON, Colo. - The Fort Carson Tax Center will begin scheduling appointments to assist active duty service members, disabled or retired veterans, Family members and surviving Family members with 2009 tax preparations January 19, at 9 a.m.The service is free, and appointments can be made up to two weeks in advance by calling (719) 524-1013. Services will be available from Jan. 25 through May 14, 2010.Last year the Tax Center prepared over 3200 federal returns and obtained about $10 million in refunds for their clients while also saving approximately $830,000 in tax preparation fees.Soldiers, Family members and disabled or retirees veterans who would like to take advantage of the Tax Center's services will need to bring all of the following applicable documents:- W-2s      - 1099s    - 1098s      - Social Security Cards for yourself and all dependents- Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents- A Special Power-of-Attorney authorizing the client to sign a tax return fora deployed Soldier.  Please note that the Tax Center will not accept a General Power of Attorney to e-file a Tax Return.- The cost of childcare - IRA contributions- Any sale of stocks, bonds and/or mutual funds - Any alimony paid or received- Copies of all court orders for divorce and/or child custody and support.  The tax center is located in building 6285 on Woodfill Rd., directly across from the Colorado Inn and Elkhorn Conference Center.
