Just in time for Veterans Day, 250 troops return to Ft. Carson
Just in time for Veterans Day, 250 troops from the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division returned to Ft. Carson Monday.
The troops were in Afghanistan since February supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Ft. Carson Special Events Center was packed with families and decked out with Christmas decorations as the troops marched in. There were many cheers and tears as families reunited.
Cpt. Jake Miraldi's little son, Alex, walked into his dad's outstretched arms.
"He was 9 months when I left, and being 18 months now, he's walking around and talking,"said Miraldi. "This is the first time I've really gotten to see him being a person more so than a little baby."
Units from the 4th BCT partnered with four Afghan Provincial Governments - Nangarhar, Nuristan, Kunar, and Laghman, in Afghanistan's eastern region, and later formed security partnerships with two additional districts in Kapisa Province as French forces drew down their forces in 2012.
The area under their responsibility covers approximately 10,000 square miles, which equates to the size of the state of Maryland, and is home to over three million Afghans, including Jalalabad, Afghanistan's third largest city.
