PUEBLO, Colo -

Police in Pueblo are investigating a stabbing Thursday morning at 319 East Evans Avenue that left two people critically hurt.

The McLelland School on East Abriendo was on lockdown for a short time while police investigated the incident. A person we spoke to at the school said the lockdown did not last long and was just a precaution.

Police tell us the incident started as an argument between a woman and her husband. A neighbor told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the fight started Wednesday night and escalated Thursday morning.

The man, identified as 37-year-old Mason Romero, stabbed his wife, 36-year-old Georgia Medina, several times. The woman's father, 55-year-old George Medina, lives upstairs and tried to intervene. Police said that's when Romero stabbed George Medina, who suffered life-threatening injuries

The woman and her father are both in critical condition and on life support. Police said the father had to have emergency surgery. Romero was admitted to the hospital for a 24-hour observation period.

Romero initially ran from the home, which is what prompted the McLelland School to go on lockdown; but police were able to locate him and take him into custody within about 15 minutes.

Police are continuing their investigation.
