Colorado Springs police are investigating a shooting at 630 N. Wahsatch Ave. Thursday night.

Police spokesman Larry Herbert confirmed that a man was shot in the face, and the bullet lodged in his neck.  Herbert said the victim is in critical condition at a local hospital.

Herbert said the shooter is one of two black men who knocked on the back door of the victim's home and after arguing, fired one shot.  Herbert said it's unclear whether the men fled on foot or in a vehicle.

The address is divided into four apartment units and Herbert said the victim lives at one of them.  However, Daniel Ott, a neighbor, said the victim doesn't live there but was visiting his girlfriend, who is a resident of the house.

Ott said the victim had many visitors at the home while his girlfriend was away, and that the possible suspects may have been there earlier in the day.

"He's not a bad guy," said Ott.  "He certainly didn't deserve to get shot in the face."

A woman, who identified herself as the house manager, said she believed drugs were the motive for the shooting, but police said the case remains under investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit.

Police searched the neighborhood and questioned neighbors but hadn't issued a detailed description of the men as of early Friday morning.
