Memorial grows for Police Officer Tyner
Flowers, flag and stuffed animal are first mementos left at crash scene
Well-wishers on Tuesday night began forming a makeshift memorial to remember fallen Colorado Springs motorcycle police officer Matt Tyner.
Bouquets of flowers, an American flag and a stuffed animal with golden angel's wings are among the first gestures made to honor Tyner. He died in a crash with a truck at the intersection of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Silver Drive.
Among those leaving flowers was Jackie Harris. She said doing so made her feel better. Harris said she was driving behind Tyner when the crash happened.
"I saw him turn his lights on, and then I didn't see him hit the car. But then I passed by and he was on the ground," she said, "So I stopped and walked back."
Harris said she's still shaken by Tyner's death and wants to understand how it happened.
"People at the accident said he was trying to pull over another motorcycle, but I didn't see the other motorcycle," she said. "I just saw him with his lights on, going through the traffic. So I didn't see the other motorcycle. But I don't think it was the red truck he was trying to pull over. I think that's just what he hit in the process."
The crash remains under investigation.
