Early Tuesday morning, residents at the Pine Creek Village Apartments said thieves broke into their apartment through the window.
“It looks like they pretty much ripped this screen off and got the window open some how,” said Christopher Perry.
The thieves had to move car tires that were blocking the windows on the outside, then squeeze past a television located in the bedroom on the other side of the window.
Perry said he and his roommate were asleep in the bedroom next to where the thieves broke in.
“We had the TV on, we were just sleeping in there. We’d fallen asleep watching good old SportsCenter and didn’t hear anything,” he said.
According to Perry, the thieves took cherry wood cased speakers, an iPhone and keys to his truck. Perry said it looked as though another speaker had been tampered with, but was not stolen.
Perry and his roommate noticed that the thieves had left the back sliding glass door open after making their mistake, and immediately called the police.
“We called them at exactly 7:41 this morning, we’ve called them twice since then,” said Perry.
Perry said when he called to report the incident, Colorado Springs Police told him they would “get to me when the get to me.”
CSPD showed up to Perry's home 8 hours after their initial call. Perry said he feels disconcerted about the police departments efforts in addressing the crime.
“I’ve got evidence everywhere and I would like for them to be able to truly do their job and do a follow-up and if not just file a police report and let it go from there, but actually try and investigate to see if they can find out what really happened,” Perry said.
Sperry said he is frustrated and no longer feels safe in his own home.
“What’s to say that they’re not going to come back. What’s to say that they don’t have any intention of doing something to me and my property beyond that point?” asked Perry.
CSPD told KRDO Newschannel 13 that the reason behind the delayed response is due in part to the burglary being classified as a "cold burglary," meaning that there were no suspects and no immediate danger or emergency.
