Proceeds from online purchases donated to local shelters
With the peak for holiday shopping just around the corner, local shelters are encouraging shoppers to utilize a website called AdoptAShelter.com.
Shoppers log onto AdoptAShelter.com and choose their favorite shelter, then click go shop.
Shoppers can access several popular retailers, including Amazon.com, Orbitz, Walmart and Barnes & Noble.
A portion of the purchase price is donated to the chosen shelter, and the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said the website is legitimate and said they do see the money coming in.
“It’s super easy. If you want to help out the shelter and don’t have time to come in or don’t have the ability to adopt a dog, then just log on here and we get a donation without you doing anything,” said Gretchen Pressley, HSPPR communications specialist.
Pressley said the money from the donations is used to fund numerous Humane Society programs, medical equipment and supplies for the animals.
“We do see checks and you’ll see that it’s all across America. We are not the only shelter participating. So, if you have other favorites, maybe you can switch back and forth,” said Pressley.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is not the only Colorado Springs shelter teaming up with AdoptAShelter.com. Dream Power Animal Rescue Foundation, LookWhatTheCatBroughtIn.org and Lucky Dog Rescue, Inc. are other local shelters shoppers can choose to donate to.
According to the website, the prices are exactly the same as they would be if shoppers were to go directly to the retailer.
The website also said it is secure, saying, “AdoptAShelter.com does not require you to register with us, nor do you need to download or install anything. We do not collect any of your personal information in order for you to support the shelter(s) / organization(s) of your choice. The only data we track are the sales commissions by shelter / organization. “
