At Gold Hills Police headquarters, Patty Pauley feels more comfortable at work.

"I feel much safer," she said.

Just a few weeks ago, the Springs Police Department began installing bullet-resistant glass around the front desk.

"We've had people bring in rifles and handguns for disposal," said Sgt. Jerry Steckler.

"I've had a person come in with a duffle bag, sat it in the lobby.  We thought it was a bomb and everybody had to evacuate," said Pauly.

So far, the bullet-resistant glass has been installed at the Gold Hills subdivision and the Police Operations Center.

Steckler said the glass will also be installed at the other substations.
