Work begins on I-25 expansion project
Crews have started work on a $60 million dollar improvement project that will widen I-25 to three lanes between Woodmen Road and Monument.
That means drivers will begin to see lane closures at night and in the early morning hours that will go on throughout the year.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, traffic will be reduced to one lane for one mile during the next two weeks between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m as crews do preliminary work taking soil and pavement samples.
The first week of closures began Sunday, February 3, in the northbound lanes. Each night through Friday, February 8, the lane closure will move north toward Monument. The closures resume Sunday, February 10, just south of Monument, and move south toward Woodmen Road, through Friday, February 15.
Drivers will continue to see lane closures starting in March as crews begin the work to widen the road. CDOT said it's not clear when the three lanes will be open, but it will be before the start of 2014.
