COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) says two tough cats that developed a close friendship while overcoming adversity will go up for adoption as a pair on Tuesday (7/8/14).

HSPPR says Bastet, the black cat, arrived at the shelter at the end of May. He was found under a bridge covered in blood with a large burn wound on the back of his neck.

The humane society treated Bastet's wound and was letting him recover in its surgery center lobby when a very scared orphan kitten arrived at the shelter in mid-June after being hit by a car.

The humane society began treating the kitten's injuries, but says she was so nervous that HSPPR staff wanted to give her a friend for comfort. That's when the kitten was put in the surgery center with Bastet.

The kitten, Ankh, was a little nervous around Bastet at first, but once they had a brief introduction, Bastet began grooming Ankh, and they have been best friends ever since.

Bastet and Ankh sleep together, groom each other and snuggle all the time. Because of that, HSPPR has decided to keep these friends together and will be adopting them out as a bonded pair only.
