COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Gas prices have dipped below $3 per gallon in some parts of the country according to

The gas price tracking site reports that some fueling stations in St. Louis are selling regular unleaded for $2.79 per gallon. Gas prices as low as $2.85 per gallon have been reported in Tulsa, and $2.89 per gallon in Lubbock, TX.

"While the direction of current prices reflect what we can expect for Q4 fuel prices, it's certainly encouraging to see how many states already have stations with regular gas available for under $3," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for "Our network of websites shows 18 states where motorists could access gasoline below $3 per gallon today:  MO, SC, TX, MS, OK, AR, VA, NM, LA, TN, AL, NJ, KS, GA, NE, IA, OH, and IN," DeHaan noted.

"If current supply and demand fundamentals remain unchanged and West Texas crude slips into the mid-$90s, then perhaps by Thanksgiving we could see as many as 33 states (two-thirds of the U.S.) with gas stations selling below $3," says Gregg Laskoski, another senior petroleum analyst.

Most drivers in El Paso and Pueblo Counties are paying between $3.36 and $3.47 for a gallon of gas, though prices have dipped as low as $3.23 per gallon in parts of the Colorado Springs metro area. works in partnership with to track gas price trends in southern Colorado.
