New bus service for the Powers Corridor

New bus service for the powers corridor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Powers Corridor in Colorado Springs has been growing quickly over the past few years, but for people without a car, it was difficult to get around.

Monday, Mountain Metro inaugurated service from the Citadel Mall to several locations on Powers, including Palmer Park, Carefree and Constitution, ending at Barnes Road near Security Service Field.

They say that even though the new service is centered on the Powers Corridor, it plays an important part in the economic health of the entire city.

"Sixty percent of our riders are either going to work or going to school, so they're already going to work or preparing to enter the work force.  So it's really important to economic development and really development in the entire community," said Craig Blewitt, the Transit Service Manager for Colorado Springs.

He said that Mountain Metro is looking at other ways to improve service.  Some of those other changes also took effect today, including more routes with service seven days a week.
