Police investigate 'questionable' attempted kidnapping

PUEBLO, Colo. - Pueblo Police are investigating a report of an attempted child abduction at South Park Elementary.

A nine-year-old boy told police he was grabbed by the arm outside of a kindergarten classroom and walked a few blocks with a man to a nearby home. But it wasn't until the boy arrived outside of the house that he realized the man he was walking with wasn't his dad. At that point, the boy told police he bit the man, kicked him and ran away. The child escaped uninjured.

Sgt. Eric Gonzales said the incident happened last Thursday around 4 p.m.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 learned of the attempted child abduction after receiving a tip from a concerned parent. Gonzales said the department didn't immediately release information to the public because the "credibility of the story was questionable." He added that police are investigating it.

District 60 spokesperson Scott Jones said the district is working with police. Jones said the student returned to school 40 minutes after he went missing.

Those who have information about the incident are urged to call Pueblo CrimeStoppers at 542-STOP.
