Teen killed in Garden of the Gods Road crash identified

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police have released the name of a 16-year-old girl who died in a crash on Garden of the Gods Road Thursday afternoon (8/21/14).

Police say Katheryn Mushok was a passenger in the car that caused the crash. The driver, identified as Mathew Sellers, 18, was issued a citation for careless driving resulting in death.

The accident happened on Garden of the Gods between N. Nevada Ave. and Mark Dabling Blvd. It was reported at 3:48 p.m.

Investigators said Sellers was driving a Honda Accord eastbound on Garden of the Gods when he hit a curb and lost control.  The car went across three lanes of traffic and over the median.  The Honda was hit by a Chrysler Pacifica going westbound on Garden of the Gods.

Mushok was pronounced dead at the scene. Garden of the Gods was closed for several hours Thursday afternoon and evening while police investigated the crash.
