The Arizona legislature passed an anti-gay law that would allow business owners to deny services to gay and lesbian customers on religious grounds. The debate was watched closely by Meg Abhau and her son, John, who came out as gay last year when he was 13. Both are Mormon and their LGBT advocacy led to a meeting with one of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints highest leaders. "He had a lot of sympathy for our family and he was a really nice man, but I didn't get the hope I was hoping for," Meg Abhau said. "I still identify as Mormon. I was born into the church. This is my culture. But as far as doctrine and what people tell me, I'm going to listen to my heart."
