Baby's Death Marks Colorado Springs 32nd Homicide Of 2011

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police have arrested a Fort Carson soldier after investigating the death of Roderick Elam's two-month-old baby girl.

"It is with deep sadness that the Colorado Springs Police Department reports the news of yet another child dying allegedly at the hands of a parent," the CSPD news release states.

Harmone'e Elam was not breathing when officers responded to a 911 call at Westmeadow Dr. on December 15.

The baby was taken to Memorial Hospital where she died a short time later.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office ruled that the death was a homicide as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and abdomen.

On Wednesday, 12/21/2011, investigators arrested Roderick Elam Jr, 20, and charged him with Child Abuse Resulting in Death.

He's in jail on a $250,000 bond.

The death of Harmone'e Elam is the 32nd homicide this year in Colorado Springs.
