Black Forest benefit concert raises $10,000
Proceeds to help 158 families affected by June wildfire
Organizers of last weekend's benefit concert in Black Forest said they have met their goal of raising $10,000 to help fire victims.
Jeff Smith of the Black Rose Acoustic Society confirmed the amount on Tuesday. He said around 700 people each paid $25 to attend the concert. Other donations came from a raffle and corporate donations, he said.
Tri-Lakes Cares of Monument will distribute the money as needed to 158 families who are victims of the fire, said Carrie Pendergast, the agency's development manager.
"Every family is different," said Pendergast. "They have different needs. We've already provided $140,000 worth of assistance, but they still can come to us for help even if we've helped them already. Now we can help them with some needs that we normally couldn't have without the money."
