'Colorado Proud' tour ends in Pueblo West, at state fair
Farmers, state team up to promote Colorado products
Getting more people to buy Colorado products--and getting more local farmers and ranchers to produce those products--is the purpose of a three-week statewide tour that's ending in Pueblo County this month.
State agriculturalists and private farmers in the organization Colorado Proud are teaming up to conduct the Choose Colorado tour, an effort to promote and raise awareness of products grown, raised and manufactured in Colorado.
The tour stopped at Safeway in Pueblo West on Thursday to display some of the products. Organizers say the tour could create a greater demand for local products, create jobs and generate more revenue.
"Something that's just crucial for our operation is to sell produce within the state," said Dominic DiSanti, a Pueblo County farmer. "It helps to have buyers like Safeway actively pursuing Colorado-grown produce."
"It's something we hope will grow and become more successful," said Wendy White of Colorado Proud. "There are dozens of products here that people may not know about."
Colorado Proud will open a retail store on the state fairgrounds in Pueblo beginning Friday. The store will offer more than 200 products provided by area businesses.
