COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

People from all walks of life gathered at Evergreen Cemetery to pay their respects to America's heroes on Memorial Day.

The cemetery was decorated with American flags, and the U.S. Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers performed a ceremony honoring a Buffalo Soldier buried there.

Air Force veteran Chad Smith told KRDO NewsChannel 13 "I think its one of the most important things to teach younger generations, because at the age of my kid, they dont understand how lucky they are to be living where they are."'

The ceremony also featured a balloon release.
