Colorado Springs police spot stolen Jeep, arrest 2 juveniles

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A detective with the Colorado Springs Police Department spotted a stolen Jeep Cherokee on Union Blvd. Thursday afternoon and managed to track down two juveniles suspected of stealing it.

The detective followed the vehicle to an area near E. Fountain Blvd and S. Union Blvd. and called for backup from other officers, the FBI Southern Colorado Safe Street Task Force, and the BATTLE South Task Force.

The stolen took off at a high speed, police said in a news release, but was later found empty in the area of E. Cucharras and S. Prospect streets. (MAP)

Officers began searching the area and found the juveniles. One of the officers recognized both as felony offenders with active warrants, so they were taken into custody. One of the juveniles had a handgun and had seven active warrants, including escape from a detention center, motor vehicle theft, robbery, and menacing. The other juvenile had warrants for motor vehicle theft and theft.

Both of the men were taken to the Spring Creek Juvenile Detention Center.
