1 injured in explosion east of downtown Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS - One person was injured and many area residents just east of downtown Colorado Springs were asked to shelter in place after reports of an explosion on Friday night.
Just after 10 p.m., there was a series of explosions that could be heard for miles. Fire crews and police officers responded to a home at Vermijo and Prospect to investigate.
A man was found inside and had relatively minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital.
When our crews got the scene at around 10:30 p.m., a roof appeared to be missing from the home and most of the windows were blown out.
The bomb squad was called in to help with the investigation. According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, as of midnight, it was waiting on a search warrant to enter the home and find the source of the explosions. It could be a couple of hours before another update.
