Arrest made in Broadmoor Church fire

COLORADO SPRINGS - The Colorado Springs Police Department has arrested the person responsible for setting a portion of the Broadmoor Church on fire Saturday morning.

Derric Cooper was apparently trying to start a fire to stay warm when the flames got out of control.

Cooper lit some scrap cardboard on fire by the rear door of the church and it spread to the roof of an alcove.

There were around a dozen people inside of the church at the time of the fire and had to be evacuated.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire before anyone got hurt.

The roof of the Broadmoor church and its electrical system suffered severe damage. The fire caused an estimated $23,000 in damage.
