CDOT asking for input into I-25 widening project

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - The Colorado Department of Transportation is hosting its first public meeting to discuss the widening project on I-25.

The plan would add one lane in each direction on the highway between Castle Rock and Monument. The area is known for a high number of accidents and heavy traffic.

The first meeting will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Library 21C at 1175 Chapel Hills Drive. The presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. CDOT will also hold another meeting on January 26 from 5 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 500 Fairgrounds Rd in Castle Rock.

CDOT says a planning and environmental linkages study is already underway to pinpoint long-term solutions. The agency hopes to begin the project by 2019 but still needs to find more than $400 million to fund it.
