Colorado Springs Fire Department deploys 8 to Houston

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Eight members of the Colorado Springs Fire Department have joined the Colorado crew headed to Houston. 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency activated the 45-member Colorado Task Force 1 (CO-TF1) Saturday, August 26 for deployment to Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.  

The deployment can last up to 14 days, with two travel days on either end, for a potential of 18 days. 

There are currently 13 FEMA urban search and rescue (USAR) teams deployed to Texas; five Type I teams and eight Type III teams.  CO-TF1 has been deployed as a Type III team.  Type I teams deploy approximately 80 personnel and Type III teams deploy approximately 45 personnel.

The CSFD has been a participating agency of CO-TF1 since 2013, with 15 members on the team filling a variety of specialties, which include:  rescue, hazardous materials, medical, and logistics.
