COLORADO SPRINGS - The Colorado Springs Police Department's Homeless Outreach Team was out in full force on Wednesday, trying to help the homeless in these frigid temperatures.

The 'HOT Team' goes out and directs the homeless to use facilities like the Springs Rescue Mission to stay warm.

Lieutenant Jeff Jensen says officers constantly come in contact with people who have nowhere else to go.

"Sometimes people just simply are not prepared to sustain that and to do so safely, and that's why our team and local service providers are trying to tell people to get indoors. And we are lucky to have a lot of available space right now that even in weather such as this that's not being utilized to capacity," said Lt. Jensen.

Jensen says they don't force people inside, but if there is available space they will enforce camping restrictions.
