Community rallying around fallen Fort Carson soldiers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Springs community is coming together after three soldiers from Fort Carson died within two days.

On August 22, Sgt. Michael J. Martinez, 22, was found unresponsive at the Grafenwoehr Training area in Germany. Martinez was pronounced dead at a local German medical facility on August 23. He was serving a nine-month deployment to eastern Europe in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve

The second Fort Carson soldier, Lamont Williams was on terminal leave when he was killed in Stafford County, Va.

Authorities believe Williams was crossing the road to dispose of some trash and was struck by a car. He was pronounced dead at around 10 p.m. on August 22.

A third Fort Carson soldier was killed at a training area on Fort Carson. Spc. Matthew R. Turcotte was shot while participating in a combined arms live-fire exercise.
